Alondra Vega-Zaldivar - Soprano / Composer
Alondra Vega-Zaldivar recently graduated from MMus in Composition at the University of Western Ontario with her Thesis Sophie: a Music Drama for solo soprano and chamber orchestra. In 2014 three of her pieces were performed: String Quartet Lyra at Orford, Quebec; Luna for Soprano, Cello and piano, in Milna Croatia; and Rise of the Cuban Cicadas for Harp and Percussion in Toronto.

 

 

Audrey Cote - Soprano
Audrey Côté is a passionate singer. She started music at an early age. Her interest in singing and theatre only grew more and more over the years, giving her the opportunity to experiment many music genres during her formation. She won Canadian voice competitions and is now appearing on Montreal stages as a soloist. Her recent experiences comprise collaboration with composers such as Snezana Nesic, Fernando Franco Alexis Murillo, William Kuo, Symon Henry and Jonathan Goulet. She also worked with some eloquent professionals, including Véronique Lacroix and André Pappathomas. Her musical path is filled with a desire to communicate through arts.

 

 

Carrie Magin - Composer
With music of luminous vocal resonance, percussive intensity, and shimmering instrumentation, internationally-performed composer Carrie Magin traverses a wide emotional range with her fresh and universal voice. Carrie Magin’s current interests revolve around the relationship between sung or spoken text and music with recent commissions by the University of Cincinnati CCM Chorale, the UC Women's Chorus, bass trombonist Russ Zokaites, and the Immanuel Presbyterian Choir in Cincinnati, OH. Past honors include a Fulbright Teaching Assistantship and a Strategic Opportunity Stipend from the New York Foundation for the Arts. In June of 2014, Ms. Magin was a Composer-in-Residence with Chamber Music Campania’s The Fiati 5 in Foggia, Italy.Carrie Magin holds degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She is a faculty member at Interlochen Summer Arts Camp and is currently Assistant Professor of Music Composition and Theory at Houghton College in upstate NY.

Justin Jaramillo - Composer
Justin Jaramillo, hailing from upstate New York, is an undergraduate composer at the Eastman School of Music. Justin balances his acadamic load with a busy writing schedule. He is currently working on a commission by the OSSIA New Music Ensemble as well as preparing for graduate school.

 

Kit Vaughan Soden- Composer
Kit Vaughan Soden is a composer based in Montreal, QC. He recentlycompleted his Masters of Music at McGill University, where he is a student member of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology. His research interests include exploring relationships between timbre, linguistics, and musical affects.

Lisa Perry - Soprano
Baltimore-based soprano Lisa Perry has been lauded for her versatility of musicianship and pure, gleaming voice. She has recently collaborated with Great Noise Ensemble, Thompson Street Opera Company, New Music on the Point, PARMA Festival, Rhymes with Opera, and the Figaro Project. She was a 2014 SongFest New Music Fellow and is a founding member of the LUNAR Ensemble.

Matthew Tozer - Composer
Matthew Tozer currently resides in London, Ontario where he works as a freelance composer, sessional instructor and operates a private studio. He holds a PhD in Music Composition from the University of Western Ontario. His compositions have been work-shopped and/or performed across North America and Europe.

Malina Rauschenfels - Soprano
Malina Rauschenfels is a soprano, composer and multi-instrumentalist transplanted to Cleveland after 11 years in New York City after degrees in cello and composition from Eastman and Juilliard. Praised by the New York Times for her "compelling" performances and as "remarkable" by the Village Voice, she has also been commended by clevelandclassical.com for her "exceptional vocal range, strong acting abilities, gripping theatricality, and commanding gestures, both musical and physical." Malina is co-founder and executive director of Burning River Baroque, with whom she sings and plays baroque cello. She is also artistic director of hūmAnómali, a collaboratively structured music ensemble which incorporates "extra-musical affairs," such as dance, gesture and theatricality into its historically informed performances of music from antiquity to the present. Christopher Park - Composer
Christopher Park has written several dramatic works for voice, chief among these is hisopera, Phaedra and Hippolytus, which premiered in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 2013. He takes particular interest in classic texts as source material. His current project for OFS is partlyinspired by ancient instructions for the afterlife etched into tiny leaves of gold.

Therese Abalo - Soprano
Therese Abalo is a flourishing soprano who loves breathing life into a role.
She joins Opera From Scratch after completing Manhattan Opera Studio's Summer Program in New York City. The Daily Republic states that Therese “does not disappoint in her vocals” and “shines on stage”. She has also performed with multiple companies and choirs around the San Francisco Bay area.

Erin Passmore - Mezzo Soprano
Canadian mezzo-soprano Erin Passmore is now an active performer in the Washington D.C. region. Erin has performed in opera festivals throughout Canada and the United States. Recently, Erin was a semi-finalist in the Orpheus vocal competition and Finalist in Opera Lancaster’s Rochelle competition. She was last in Halifax performing Maurya in Riders to the Sea with the Halifax Summer Opera Festival.

Rachel Devorah Trapp is an American composer, sound artist, and improvising hornist. Her context-specific works for performance and installation crystallize in sound the habits of being: the daily patterns of ineffable exchange that bind our individual lives together. She is currently a Jefferson Fellow at the University of Virginia pursuing a Doctoral degree in composition and computer technologies.
